Child Support
Child support is a right that belongs to your child or children. It is ordered by the court to help make sure that your children receive financial support while they are growing up. Child support is not meant to be used as a weapon to punish an erring spouse, or as a tool to leverage a better financial settlement. Child support belongs to the child, not the parents. If you need help enforcing your children's rights, contact an experienced family law attorney as soon as possible.
Alternate Dispute Resolution
More and more family law matters are being heard outside the courtroom, and are resolved by using methods known as "alternate dispute resolution," or ADR. Any family court judges order ADR as a way of avoiding litigation. ADR has several advantages: it is generally less expensive than taking a case through the court system, cases are resolved more quickly, and the parties are given every opportunity to participate in creating the final result. ADR often allows parties to reach an agreement without all of the bitterness that can result from traditional court proceedings.
